Question
Give two advantages of cultivating genetically modified crop plants.
Worked answer
Genetically modified crops can be given useful new characteristics. Any two valid advantages, for example: (1) higher yield / more food produced because the crop grows better or resists damage; (2) resistance to pests or diseases, reducing the need for pesticides and lowering crop losses; (3) tolerance to herbicides so weeds can be controlled without harming the crop; (4) improved nutritional content (e.g. added vitamins); (5) ability to grow in harsh conditions such as drought or salty soil.
