What the syllabus expects

Fieldwork is carried out on one of these areas: community response to climate change, a needs analysis of elderly residents in an urban neighbourhood, or fluvial flood risk and the strategies to reduce it
Scope: Done with teacher guidance, individually or in small groups
Crafting geographical questions or hypotheses that sit at a suitable scale, can be researched or measured, and are clearly defined
Building a plan that sets out the primary and secondary data required to test the question or hypothesis
Choosing suitable methods for determining sample size, selecting the sample and collecting the data
Ensuring the data collected is accurate and reliable
Handling research ethics and the constraints imposed by available resources, and minimising the risks of doing fieldwork
Gathering primary data with appropriate methods and secondary data, including material from geospatial technologies
Organising and displaying data using suitable methods

Analysing the data with appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods and drawing conclusions that answer the question or hypothesis
Judging how valid the fieldwork is, weighing both the data gathered and the methods chosen to collect and present it
