What the syllabus expects
- State the properties of magnets.
- Describe induced magnetism produced by putting magnetic material near a strong magnet or inside a current-carrying solenoid.
- Tell apart temporary magnets (such as iron) and permanent magnets (such as steel) by their properties and uses.
- Describe how a bar magnet, for example a compass, can find the direction of a magnetic field.
- Sketch the field pattern surrounding a single bar magnet and the pattern in the gap between two bar magnets' poles.
